Buckskin Gulch, Escalante National Monument, Utah.

Hiking Buckskin Gulch slot canyon is one of the premiere hikes in Escalante National Monument and highly recommended for anyone interested in experiencing the wonder of slot canyons. Impossible to capture in any single image, the drama and size of the canyon walls confining you to a narrow inescapable path is a must for any landscape photographer. As a result, my approach to photographing these amazing canyon walls was to shoot in black and white, in the hopes of capturing a different overall mood then the usual gorgeous color images which have become all too common. In subtracting the color from this series, I am able to focus more on the geological structure of the canyon and gradation in tonal values between the illuminated walls and shadowed areas when composing the final image.
