Buckskin Gulch, Escalante National Monument, Utah.
Driving through Escalante National Monument in Southern Utah it is hard to beleive that some of the most wonderous scenes mother nature has to offer exists hidden within the dry tortured landscape. Buckskin Gulch is a slot canyon whose rocky sandstone walls having been eroded by rain water over millions of years have formed magnificent patterns and smooth textured walls. One of the highlights of my most recent trip to Utah and Arizona was this hike, in which your surrounded by the massive colorful sandstone walls while navigating massive canyon obstructions and wading through knee deep pools of standing water from the last flash flood.
For this image I wanted to highlight the contrast between the different colored sandstone as well as the opposing lines carved into the rock over the centuries.
